CSU’s championship seasons add up to another Horizon League McCafferty Trophy
Cleveland State University has won the McCafferty Trophy, awarded annually to the top overall sports program in the Horizon League.
The honor comes on the heels of an outstanding 2012-2013 campaign for the Vikings. The past academic year brought Horizon League championships for the women’s volleyball team and the men’s soccer, swimming and diving and tennis teams.
For CSU, this was the first McCafferty Trophy-winning finish in five years. Loyola University Chicago came in second and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee came in third.
The trophy is named in honor of James McCafferty, the conference’s first commissioner.
“Congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches and support staff; all of whom strive for excellence every day in their preparation and in their will to win,” said John Parry, CSU’s director of athletics. “Out theme this year was ‘Finish Viking Strong,’ and the Vikings have, in fact, finished strong.”
