CSU is ‘Hot for Betty’
So you think you caught a glimpse of Betty White on campus recently?
Actually, it was the next best thing. Dozens of Cleveland State University students posed for pictures with a life-size cutout of the “Hot in Cleveland” star and recorded special video messages to her on February 11 in the Student Center.
The fun was part of an elaborate social-media push to persuade the legendary comedienne to pay a real-life visit here as part of CSU’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration.
“Betty White is icon,” said CSU Student Government Association President Allison Dumski, one of the organizers of the “CSU Is Hot for Betty” campaign and a member of the anniversary planning committee.
White plays Elka on “Hot in Cleveland.” Her character on the popular TV Land sitcom attends CSU. White’s distinguished career also includes Emmy Award-winning stints on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls.”
“Betty White connects with so many different types of people, including our students,” Dumski said. “For CSU’s 50th anniversary, we want to bring in a special guest who will generate excitement on campus as well as in the community. We think Betty White would be perfect.”
If you agree – and who wouldn’t? – help spread the love on social media by using the hashtag “#CSUHotForBetty.”
